INFINAM® PA12

Polyamide 12 - The multipurpose nylon material for infinite 3D printing applications

Polyamide 12 nylon materials - INFINAM® PA12 - convince with their high quality and processing capabilities, and the property profile of each powder is perfectly matched to common powder bed fusion 3D printing technology.

What are PA12 nylons?

Polyamide 12 or short PA12 is a long-chain semicrystalline thermoplastic material exhibiting excellent material properties. In general, PA12 high-performance polymers absorb little water, are resistant to polar and nonpolar solvents, have a low tendency to creep and high impact strength, and can be used over a wide temperature range between extremly cold and high temperature. This combination of material properties makes polyamide 12 suitable for various demanding aplications like lightweight automotive or aerospace parts, medical devices for temporary body contact or metal-free solutions for the oil & gas industry.

PA12 can be proceeded using different manufacturing technologies like injection molding, extrusion or additive manufacturing to be post-processed by mechanical surface finish, coating, bonding, overmolding, or welding.

Key material properties of Pa12 nylons

  • Excellent mechanical resistance
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • Lawer water intake
  • High impact strength
  • High processability

Customized PA12 nylons for powder-based 3D printing

For almost three decades of development and manufacturing 3D printable high-performance polymers, Evonik has established its INFINAM® PA12 nylon powders as THE multipurpose material for infinite 3D printing applications. Today, PA12 nylons manufactured by Evonik are the golden standard for powder bed fusion 3D printing of functional industrial parts.

This high-performance powders be used in selective laser sintering (SLS), high speed sintering (HSS) as wellas multi jet fusion (MJF) technologies and is expected to enable additive production of three-dimensional plastic parts for demanding 3D applications.

Evonik's ready-to-use PA12 nylon powders offer the greatest attitude of properties like temperature resistance, mechanical resistance, chemical resistance, impact resistance, excellent surface resolution and feature detail, food contact compliance, or high processability in order to suite them for common powder bed fusion technologies.

Evonik is the world's leading manufacturer of HIGH-QUALITY polyamide 12 nylons especially developed for common powder bed fusion 3D printing technologies.

3D printed parts made from polyamide 12 have a smooth surface finish and can be used in a variety of applications. Overall, 3D printed parts made from PA12 are strong, durable, and versatile. They can be used in a variety of applications, including automotive, aerospace, and medical industries.

Another advantage of using polyamide 12 in 3D printing is its chemical resistance. It is resistant to many chemicals, including oils, greases, and solvents, making it ideal for use in industrial applications. Additionally, PA12 is resistant to UV radiation, which means that it can be used in outdoor applications without degrading over time.

If you are looking for a material that is mechanical- and chemical-resistant, and can withstand high temperatures, Evonik's INFINAM® polyamide 12 grades are the material of choice for your next 3D printing project.

Driving circular plastics economy in 3D printing with new PA12 nylons

Reduced carbon footprint

Our new sustainable INFINAM® PA12 powders are produced using renewable energies at the Marl Chemical Park. TÜV Rheinland has certified the associated life cycle assessments, attesting to an improvement in the company's own carbon footprint of nearly 50 percent. In the overall eco-balance, the comparison of the new sustainable material classes is positive even compared with the castor oil-based polyamides of Evonik's own Terra range.

Improved reusability - ZERO WASTE

Using innovative powder production technology, powder-based 3D printing processes like SLS, MJF and HSS can be used for part production without any waste of PA12 nylon powder. Just the material which is needed for parts in one production run has to be refreshed to set up the next run.

World's largest production network for PA12 3D printing materials

Precipitation is a purely physical process that Evonik uses on a large scale for PA12 powder production. Polyamide 12 granules are dissolved in a suitable solvent under defined pressure and temperature, and the resulting solution is then subjected to an equally controlled cooling process. During this process, the solvent separates again from the polymer, and the latter precipitates to form a fine powder of Evonik's INFINAM® PA12 branded 3D printing nylon material.

Evonik manufactured its INFINAM® PA12 nylons at the world's largest fully integrated production for polyamide 12 in Chemical Park in Marl, Germany. They are prepared by a special physical process and thus distinguished by an almost perfectly spherical particle shape, which makes them especially suitable for powder bed fusion 3D printing.

With its polyamide 12 nylons, Evonik is a pioneer in the development and manufacturing of PA12 powder materials for PBF 3D printing technologies. Having delivered the group's first powders for additive manufacturing as early as 1996, Evonik has been setting new quality standards that are still valid today. With a variety of innovative high-performance materials ranging from reinforced to flame-retardant powders, we unbound sustainable 3D printing at scale.
